چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Bone tissue is one of the most frequently used tissues for transplantation. It is required to fill defects caused by trauma or tumor resection, reconstruction of congenital malformation and age related decrease of bone mass. A number of growth factors, such as BMP-2, and BMP-7 play important roles in promoting bone formation and are currently used in clinical bone defect and spine fusion. However, it has been reported that >100-fold larger amounts of BMPs are required to induce bone formation, not in proportion to its physiological concentration. Looking for safe and natural chemical compound that safely promotes bone formation and repair has drawn a substantial interest. Naringin, a bioflavnoid which commonly found in citrus fruits, has been reported to inhibit the retinoic acid-induced osteoporosis in rats [1] and naringin/collagen matrix showed improved bone healing in rabbit cranial defect model [2]. In the present study, the effects of this flavonoid on osteogenic differentiation in vitro and heterogenic bone formation in vivo were investigated.

Naringin enhances osteogenic differentiation through the activation of ERK signaling in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

Objective(s): Naringin has been reported to regulate bone metabolism. However, its effect on osteogenesis remains unclear. The aim was to investigate the effect of naringin on osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) through the activation of the ERK signaling pathway in osteogenic differentiation. Materials and Methods: Annexin V-FITC assay and MTT assay ...

Naringin-induced bone morphogenetic protein-2 expression via PI3K, Akt, c-Fos/c-Jun and AP-1 pathway in osteoblasts.

Osteoporosis is a reduction in skeletal mass due to an imbalance between bone resorption and bone formation. Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) plays important roles in osteoblastic differentiation and bone formation. Therefore, components involved in BMP activation are good targets for the development of anti-osteoporosis drugs. In this study, naringin a polymethoxylated flavonoid, was shown to ...

Biological behaviors of muscarinic receptors in mesenchymal stem cells derived from human placenta and bone marrow

Objective(s): Cells perform their functional activities by communicating with each other through endogenous substances and receptors. Post-translation, stem cells function properly in new host tissue by carrying specific cell surface receptors. We aimed to characterize muscarinic receptor subtypes in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) together with osteogenic and adipogenic...

Comparison of liposomal formulations incorporating BMP-2 peptide to induce bone tissue engineering

Objective(s): Fabricating a biomimetic scaffold platform combined with controlled release of bioactive agents is a practical approach for bone tissue engineering. Controlled delivery of peptides and growth factors which play a significant role in osteogenesis is an important issue reducing the associated adverse effects and leading to cost-effectiveness. Materials and Methods: We develope...

Ethyl Acetate Extract of Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) Enhances Proliferation and Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Glycyrrhiza glabra has been used as a flavoring and sweetener agent, in addition to its therapeutic properties. It is rich in phytoestrogen and may prevent osteoporosis caused by estrogen deficiency; however, there is no evidence for its effects on proliferation and osteogenesis in mesenchymal stem cells. So, we were encouraged to investigate whether the ethyl acetate extract of licorice root a...
